The boys sharing a hug in their Christmas Eve PJs
It’s the holidays and for as long as I can remember, I’ve heard the phrase, “It’s the thought that counts,” used when some receives a gift they didn’t want or need. But really, it means so much more to me. Thoughtful, small gestures are more valuable to me than anything you can buy at the store. Stuff is just stuff – it can’t comfort you, make you happy, or make you feel loved.
We’ve tried to install the same thoughtfulness in our children. We showed them by our actions and we reinforced the behaviors when they were little by having them be of service to others. It was doing for others and learning how great it makes you feel that made them the wonderful men they are today. Both are kind and caring and they understand that life isn’t about “stuff,” but about being connected to the people they love.
In the craziness that can sometimes be the holidays, we try to take time out to do something for others. In the past the boys have sung Christmas carols at a nursing home, but these days work schedules make the harder to do. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do good for others – this year each of the boys will receive a gift of a donation in their name. They’ll be thrilled that others will benefit.
Kleenex’s Softness Worth Sharing Initiative
I have the pleasure of giving away a Kleenex Care package and this one I’ll be giving to my son and his fiancé. The two have been battling a cold for over 10 days and they deserve a little pampering. Perhaps it’s time to make up some homemade chicken soup to go with it to get these two healthy again – they’ve got a wedding to plan!
Kleenex’s Softness Worth Sharing initiative is a great way to show others you care. Purchase specially marked packages and redeem the code online* to send a Kleenex Brand Care Pack to someone who could use a pick-me-up.
