My husband works a crazy schedule. With a full-time job, a part-time business, and summer spent being sent to the other side of the state on wildland firefighting assignments, it seems like we haven’t had any time to ourselves in months. We’re planning a getaway, but we have to go by car because it’ll be short notice and we’ll only have one to two nights, so the destination has to be within a few hours of our home.
So where to go? Well Seattle comes to mind first, but we’re only 20 minutes south, so it’s not really much of a trip. Still, in the 35 years I’ve lived here, we’ve only stayed downtown once and we really liked it, so it’s not completely off the table. Plus it’ll be the start of the holiday season and downtown Seattle is amazing that time of the year.
Another option is Portland. We’ve driven through Portland many times on our way to somewhere else, but the last time we visited the city itself, our oldest son was a newborn….that was 1986! Maybe it’s time for us to make a trip back down there!
Gogobot Travel in the Know!
I took a few minutes to check out both vacation locations on a website called Gogobot today and especially to see what’s available in Portland. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of information Gogobot made available in just a few seconds.
Gogobot Portland Hotel Restaurant and Attractions Recommendations
The first thing I found on the Gogobot site is a great list of the top hotels, restaurants, and activities – so easy! Then I searched for specific information about hotels, including reviews, ratings, and pricing.
Gogobot checks major travel sites and shares the information from all of them in one convenient place. Plus users provide feedback on locations and activities so you can be sure you’re going to have a great time. I’m a huge fan of reading about people’s experiences so I know what to do, what to see, what to miss, and where to find the hidden gems.
One of the places I was excited to see in the outdoor options was Multnomah Falls. Reading about it reminded me that we visited there on that trip we took back in 1986 and it was phenomenal! It was fun reading the reviews to see that it hadn’t changed much in the 20+ years since we’ve been there and that’s a good thing! It’s nice to know this beautiful piece of nature has been preserved.

I found several other fabulous places we’ve never been like old town and the Portland Japanese Gardens. While the weather might be cold and rainy, outdoor activities are usually still possible in November. I also checked out some indoor options just in case.
I checked out the hotels and they’re priced in the same range as Seattle - $150 and up a night. That’s helpful in budgeting and gives me and idea of what we have to spend on other outings while we’re there. I’ve also searched for some vegetarian restaurants as well as a steak house for the hubby.
I’m enjoying checking out Gogobot Travel and will remember it for future trips! I’m hoping this trip comes together. If it does, I’ll share it with you! I’m personally pulling for visiting Portland rather than being a tourist in Seattle. I think we’ve done enough of Washington in the last 35 years, it’s time to give Oregon a try!
