It’s the time of year that when I held as a full-time employee I dreaded – insurance open enrollment. While I was grateful to have insurance and choices; I hated trying to figure out what the best option was for my family. My employer was unusual in that they actually provided time for all of the competing health care companies a time to come in and share with employees. Unfortunately, that still didn’t always answer all of my questions, and more times than not, I went with the plan I’d had the year before and hoped for the best.

It turns out I’m not alone. Aflac did a survey and the majority of the respondents reported that their employer didn’t communicate whatsoever during open enrollment period, so many employees resorted to staying with the same provider year after year. Aflac wants to change the process and they’re encouraging employers and employees to get more involved during the open enrollment period and find out what’s offered and what will benefit the employee and her family and they’ve done that by commissioning a study to show you why it’s important.

Insurance is more than just premiums. It’s out-of-pocket expenses that add up as well. Expenditures like travel and lodging expenses due to treatment out of town – those expenses are generally not covered by your regular insurance. Aflac wants you to consider covering yourself for those expenses with their plan.

While I’ve never been an Aflac insurance customer, I do have a very good friend who chose to add their coverage a few years ago. Within 1 month of her Aflac plan being initiated, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She went through a year of treatment and Aflac was a lifesaver for her. It helper her keep her home. She believes in the company so much she became a sales rep for them and she’s gone on to share her story with others.

Now is a good time to take a look at Aflac and what they have to offer that can supplement your major medical plan. Perhaps it’s a perfect fit for you, too.
