500 Best Quinoa Recipes: 100% Gluten-Free Super-Easy Superfood Cookbook Review

As a vegetarian, I understand the value of quinoa. It’s a superfood that is high in protein from a vegetable source. It’s also an excellent source of folate, magnesium, phosphorus, fiber, and iron. But it’s not just vegetarians that benefit from quinoa and all that it offers. It can be a mainstay in a gluten-free diet or even you meat eaters that appreciate a boost in nutrition.

Still, I know all this but I’m not a fan. Perhaps it because the few times I’ve tried quinoa it’s been gummy and sticky. I don’t think that’s how it’s supposed to be. Many say it has the same texture of couscous (which weirdly I don’t like either). It should have a nutty flavor, which I love, and it’s quick and easy to cook with.

What I didn’t know is that quinoa comes in lots of different forms like rolled, puffed, flour or the whole seed (which is the only type I’ve tried).  What I love about this is that perhaps there are other forms that I will like! And with new cookbook by Camilla V Saulsbury called 500 Best Quinoa Recipes: 100% Gluten-Free Super-Easy Superfood, I’m looking forward to trying alternative ways to add this superfood to my diet.

Some of the unusual recipes in the 500 Best Quinoa Recipes: 100% Gluten-Free Super-Easy Superfood cookbook include: Smoky Quinoa-Sausage Sliders, Quinoa-Olive Tapenade, Herbed Cornbread Bites, Quick Quinoa and Tofu Stir-fry, California Quinoa Club Sandwich, and  Sweet potato Whiskey Pie. What recipes will I likely try first? The Rosemary Walnut Bread sounds fabulous and it uses quinoa flour. There’s also a fresh Herb and Pesto Bread with substitution to make it completely gluten-free if necessary. There are plenty of dishes that include meat as well as vegetarian and vegan version. All-in-all it’s a well-rounded cook book highlighting this popular and nutritional ingredient.

Saulsbury also has included a great list of interesting information about the history of quinoa, handy tips, and nutritional values. The book includes a handful of great photos and a wipe-clean cover (thankfully since I’ve already spilled on it!).
