Our oldest son’s first day of kindergarten (in red) 1991
I have always loved back-to-school time. As a kid I loved school and couldn’t wait for it to start, plus it meant the start of the new TV season. When I had my own kids I tried to pass on my love of the new school year to my children by letting them pick out their own supplies and spending a little extra for fun themed markers, folders, and more. We wanted school to be exciting and fun and something to look forward to.
BGCA and Disney
While my kids were lucky in that they had everything they needed and more for back-to-school, not every child is so fortunate. We generally bought extra supplies to donate to help out those in need. This year Disney has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and they’ve launched a Tools for Back to School initiative.
Tools for Back to School features a cool pop-quiz style game – for every correct answer, supplies are donated to the BGCA to distribute where they’re needed most. You play, they win!
BGCA and jcpenney
Also during the month of August, join jcp cares and “round up” your purchase at checkout to benefit BGCA. While you’re shopping for your family, you can help others as well.
BCCA Tip Sheets for Parents
Parents can check out the BGCA website for educational content and tip sheets which can be download. Check out their ‘Get Ready’ section. Current selections include: Time Management Tips, Think College, PowerHour Hints for Parents, Helping Children Set Goals, and Be Ready Parent Tips.
Going back to school should be a fun a memorable time. If we work together, it can be for all children.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Boys and Girls Club. I received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
