The Chocolatier’s Wife

The Chocolatier’s Wife

I’m always looking for a good book to read so when I was given the chance to review the book ‘The Chocolatier’s Wife’ I ran with it.  Written by Cindy Lynn Speer, this book combines two of my favorite things… fantasy and chocolate!

Beginning in the kingdom of Berengeny, we quickly discover that no one person can choose whom they marry.  Each year the babies of Berengeny are taken to the Wise Woman to seek out their future mate.  This is where we learn that William Almsley, at age six has yet to find his bride.  Upon his seventh birthday, William reminds his parents that he is to meet the Wise Woman to find out his fate, and sure enough they found a match.

His bride to be, Tasmin, comes from the terrible North and both families agree this is a horrible match.  William decides to embraces his match and starts to write letters to his future bride so they can get to know each other before they are to be married.  As time passes on, Tasmin, William’s future wife begins to wonder when her William will call her to marriage.  As her 18th birthday comes she is still waiting for him to take her hand.  Then out of the blue she receives a letter from William telling her that he has been convicted of murdering the town Bishop and he has freed her to marry whom she pleases.

Tasmin being the strong woman that she is decides to uproot herself from her family in the North and fly down to Berengeny to defend her husband-to-be that she has yet to meet.  Tasmin is now in an unknown area and struggling to figure out who killed the Bishop while mingling with William’s unhelpful and extremely judgmental family.  She quickly discovers that things are not as they seem in Berengeny and she is determined to get to the bottom of it!

If you’re looking for a good summer book, consider ‘The Chocolatier’s Wife’. You won’t be disappointed.
