Live a Life You Love: 7 Steps to a Healthier, Happier, More Passionate You,

It seems like months ago since we got away for a night and now I’m already dreaming about the next time. Summer isn’t over yet, even if the weather here in Seattle is more fall-like every day. There’s still time to make vacation memories!

Embassy Suites partnered with Dr. Susan Biali the author of, “Live a Life You Love: 7 Steps to a Healthier, Happier, More Passionate You,” to help you get more from your vacation time.  According to Dr. Biali, families need at least 3 days to reap the benefits and full restorative effects of time off, so shorter trips can be fabulous.

Here are Dr. Biali’s top 8 Vacation Travel Tips

  1. Vacation isn’t just about the time you’re away – the anticipation of a vacation can improve your mood as well.  You’ll likely experience more productivity pre-vacation.
  2. Figure out the vacation that fits your family – vacation dabblers or maximizers. Prefer taking several short vacations throughout the year? You’re vacation dabblers and getting away for 2-3 days can mean less work and struggle with coordinating schedules. Prefer one long vacation? You’re a vacation maximizer. Schedule transition days to make it easier to get back in the swing of your regular routine.
  3. No time or money to take a vacation because of a family travel obligation? Turn that into a vacation opportunity and add some sightseeing opportunities or treat yourself to a special family dinner while you’re on the road.
  4. Sign up for special travel rewards with hotels, airlines, rental car companies, etc. In addition to getting points that can be used later for rewards, many offer special discounts or coupons for the trip you’re making. Ask when making reservations if you qualify for any discounts like senior, kids stay/fly free, etc.
  5. Leave the night before your vacation begins and arrive at your destination early. Get a great night’s rest and you’re ready to go bright and early instead of spending the morning travelling. Also, kids are more likely to sleep on the way in the  late afternoon and early evening.
  6. Stretch your vacation budget by staying at a hotel that includes extras like free breakfast, cocktail snacks, etc., That’s where Embassy Suites can help. Their 2-room suites are more economical that renting two rooms and and their made-to-order breakfast and evening snacks really cut down on your food bill.
  7. Find a balance between relaxation and activities. Sleep in if it’s what’s you need to feel rested or spend time at the pool – afternoon naps aren’t just for kids, either!
  8. Collect objects and take photos during your vacation and when you get home, scrapbook them or make a photo album. Make sure you label every location and person in photos because in 10 years you’ll be glad you did when you no longer remember the details.
