Purina Cat Chow Contest – Real Stories Project Reminder and Sam Update

Our sweet Sam is still missing. It’s been 6 days now and despite our attempts to locate him, he’s still gone (read: Sam’s Story – Purina Cat Chow Contest – The Real Stories Project). It’s amazing how much one little cat can leave behind such a big hole in our home. Granted, Sam’s no little cat, he’s big and long, and such a curious kitty. I miss him peeking in my bedroom door to see if the dogs are around. If they aren’t, he’d jumped up on the bed for a little petting before the dogs discovered him and he hightailed it back to the other room.

I also realized that I look for him every time I walk past his bedroom door. He has a padded perch he loves to sleep on in the window and I can’t stand that it sits there empty. Even my husband, an avowed so-totally-over-having-pets-guy, misses him. He was a frequent visitor in his garage while he worked out there; and worse, his “parents” my son and his girlfriend miss their snuggly little boy.

I hope that he’s being cared for by someone and I hope they’ll look for his owner soon. We’ve placed  a Craiglist ad, listed him with the local pet shelter, and covered the neighborhood with lost signs. We just have to hope that he comes back very soon because we really miss our little wandering boy. When he does arrive home, I think I’m going to buy him a tracking collar so this never happens again.

I feed a feral cat colony, and I see housecats quite a bit. If you are in a larger town, oftentimes there will be larger organizations that take care of the colonies………and your local shelter might know of them. If the county run shelter doesn’t know (or wont tell you) try calling the nearest no kill shelter and ask them if they are aware of anyone who cares for ferals nearby to your location. Perhaps the folks who care for the ferals have spotted him, and trust me, they will be happy to help trap and return him to you or have you come over and call him especially if he has a pattern of showing at a certain time. (most who feed colonies actively try and find owners and if we can;t and they are friendly housecats we help find them homes)

I hope you find him, and I hope in the meantime he has found a kindly stranger who has out food and water for him.

Thanks Ellen! He came home yesterday at 2:30am out of the blue and mad as hell we’d lost him. Granted, he walked off, but try telling him that! He’s easily half his weight after 10-days lost so he clearly was somewhere he couldn’t hunt or he sucks at it. We’re so happy to have him home.

  2. Our Small Hours

Thanks – still no sign of him. We’re starting to lose hope.

    • Connie

Thanks Tricia – it’s killing us not knowing where he is. Every time the dogs bark I hope it’s because he’s come home.
