Simple Sunday Brunch Recipes

Sunday brunch has been a long held tradition in our family when we stay with my grandparents.  It’s a guarantee that grandma will be up cooking away with all of us girls offering to help out in any way possible.  Grandma has brunch down to a science so that almost all of the dishes are done and sitting on the table within 5 minutes of each other.  I love Sunday brunch because it’s a time for bonding with my family and making memories.

My household is currently comprised of two full-time working adults.  I strive each and every Sunday to remain true to the tradition and cook brunch for my family. Not having it down to a science, I’m left with food waiting patiently for its counterparts to be complete, and I feel limited on my offerings.  I know how to cook, but I’ve never really pushed myself out of my normal brunch menu. That is until I came across a book by Betsy Rosbottom titled Sunday Brunch: Simple, Delicious Recipes for Leisurely Mornings.

I didn’t realize how much more there could be to a brunch menu. I always thought of brunch being breakfast for the lazy weekender! Sunday Brunch has broadened my horizon by showing me how important savory flavors are to the menu.  This cookbook not only has a great section on kitchen equipment and fun cooking tips but it also includes a fantastic section on brunch planning based on the type of hosting or in my case weekend I am planning on having!

Some of my favorite new recipes from Sunday Brunch include the Baked Eggnog French Toast with Cranberries and Apples and the Potato and Arugula Omelets. Also the Poached Apricots and Greek Yogurt with Pistachios look amazing! The recipes are easy to follow and lucky for me the majority of the recipes have photographs of what my expected outcome should look like.

I’m not going to lie, I don’t believe this cookbook would be a good fit for the novice cook due to some equipment requirements and cooking techniques, but if you’re interested in hosting large brunches, in need of a menu makeover, or just looking for some simple Sunday brunch recipes, then  Sunday Brunch by Betsy Rosbottom would be a great fit.
