Summer Fun Pizza and Ice Cream Party

Thankfully summer has finally arrived here in Seattle! I can’t believe just three days ago I was complaining about being cold. As I write this I have the loud hum of three fans in my ears and I’m covered in damp towels trying to get comfortable at the end of the day when our house is at its hottest. It’s pretty rare here in Seattle to have air-conditioning so we’re mustering through.

Still, don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled to finally be able to do some outdoor activities and yesterday we welcomed summer and celebrated the July family birthdays with a patio party.  You may remember I wrote about my shopping trip the other day where I headed to Walmart to grab some summer fun with the help of Tombstone Pizza and Nestle Ice Cream. (Read: Party Planning – Pizza and Ice Cream Birthday Party and More #CBias #GrabSummerFun or check out my shopping trip in photos on Google+)

Yesterday we gathered at my sister’s house and baked up the pizzas, added a green salad and raspberry lemonade, and enjoyed some time out on the patio together. Our theme was TGIS (Thank Goodness It’s Summer!) and Laura’s Birthday (mine too!).

What?!? Pizza isn’t your first thought for summer party fare? It should be – it’s fast, easy, and you can cook more than one at a time so the kitchen won’t get too hot. Plus it’s easy to eat, portable, and with veggies, meat, and dairy it’s a complete food in one dish.

I’d picked up several varieties of pizza so there was something for everyone, including myself the only vegetarian in the family. We thought about adding some additional toppings to the pizzas but decided they were complete as they were so we popped them in the oven and set the table. We used some fun strawberry-themed dinnerware and added some sweet garden decorations to set the tone for our summer party.

After we’d eaten our fill of pizza and salad, we enjoyed the Nestle Drumstick ice cream cones – what a taste of childhood. The girls, all in their mid-twenties, really enjoyed their cones and then we finished the evening with a movie and spa night – what a great time we had!

My mom loves those little statues. We got them for her a few weeks ago and they keep popping up in pictures :)
