Taste of Home Cooking School Cookbook Review

Taste of Home: Cooking School Cookbook: 400 + Simple to Spectacular Recipes.

Taste of Home: Cooking School Cookbook: 400 + Simple to Spectacular Recipes.

I’m a huge fan of the Taste of Home books and magazines and I’ve excited to be doing this cookbook review of their newest book, The Taste of Home: Cooking School Cookbook: 400 + Simple to Spectacular Recipes. The book is based on their popular cooking school lessons and it lets people like me who can’t attend have the luxury of having the class in my home. The book highlights the skills and information shared at their school lessons but allows you to work on them at home, at your own pace, and at your skill level – beginner to experienced cook.

The book includes techniques, tips, and secrets for entertaining or cooking weekday meals.  The chapters run from easy-to-prepare classics that your own mother likely made to new and fresh tastes. And they worked to make them affordable by using common and readily available items you should be able to find easily.

The book shares a lot of basic techniques you can use to build up your repertoire and you’ll be using that knowledge to modify recipes to suit your tastes in no time. I’ll personally skip the “cheat it” recipes as they use premade soups and the like which I’m not a fan of.

Some of the outstanding recipes include the Sparkling Raspberry Lemonade which would be amazing during these hot summer months, the Gnocchi in Sage Butter (although I’m not a fan of Gnocchi myself the sage butter would be fabulous on grilled corn on the cob), and Fresh Cherry Pie. Cherries are in season for us right now and they’re spectacular this year. Once you try a fresh cherry pie you’ll never go back to that canned filling recipes again!

My favorite thing about the book is that all of the recipes are photographed and they’re done so beautifully. I’m not a fan of books without photos or ones that have only a few, I want to see what the recipe looks like completed to see if it’s something I can do or if my family will enjoy it. This book has got that covered and I’m looking forward to having this book available in my library of cookbooks and I’m sure I’ll be cooking out of it soon.

  10. I’m not a fan of cookbooks without pictures either. I need to see the finished product before I try it.

I guess it’s for budgetary reasons, but I have to think they’d sell better with pics.
