Home Tech Review: Wireless Networking Made Easy

Our old router – a Linksys Wireless-G
We’ve been using the same Linsys wireless router since we installed wireless in our home years ago. So long ago I don’t remember exactly when. Even though it still worked fine, I realized when we installed some wireless security cameras that the old wireless wasn’t powerful enough to broadcast the streaming video.
Now with more and more wireless devices becoming a part of our home, it’s important to make sure the wireless router is up to the task. When looking for a home router the distance you want the wireless to travel is a consideration but so it the future proofing of your home wireless system. Future proofing refers to making sure the products that you buy can be upgraded negating the need to toss away a perfectly good working device just because the technology has become obsolete.
Linksys EA2700 App-Enabled N600 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router with Gigabit
The new Cisco Linksys EA2700 is a future proof product that’s been developed to work with the Cisco Connect Cloud service that will be launching this summer. This powerful new service will be free to Linksys router owners.
On its own, the EA2700 is a great Wi-fi router that has an easy-to-use interface (no IT tech needed!) and fabulous Parental Controls so you can limit what your children can download and the hours they’re able to access the Internet. I also love the guest feature which lets you give temporary access to your Internet connection but not your network to visitors. Another fabulous feature is the ease with which you can designate the wireless devices that get priority over others – ie., my laptop over the kids’ HD movie.
The Future of the Wired Home
Cisco/Linksys is betting that we’ll be seeing a lot more “smart” devices including appliances in our homes. We have two Smart TVs and will never go back to a traditional television, so I have to think they’re correct. This new app-enabled router is designed to work with 3rd party future products as they become available like smart appliances and when bundled with Cisco’s Connect Cloud, you’ll be able to access and control those appliances from any internet connected device.

I love that the Cisco Linksys makes networking for non-tech people possible. The installation and set-up is three steps and foolproof and it grows with you as your needs grow.

My router is the same as your old one. I guess it is time to think about updating it. Thank you for the information.
