New Spanx Minimizer Bra Review

The Spanx line of undergarments started out of necessity. It’s said that Sara Blakely, the Spanx founder, simply cut the legs off of a pair of control top pantyhose before an event and that spawned a billion dollar business and a product worn under some of the most expensive gowns in Hollywood. Now this same brand ,who’s become a mainstay in the fashion world, has added some new bras to their line and they’re hoping that they can do for our breasts what they’ve done for Hollywood’s hottest bottoms – make them shapely and sexy!

While I’m far from shapely or sexy, even Spanx has me covered with their new Bra-liminate Minimizer bra. I recently received one to take on a test drive and I have to tell you that you’ll notice these Spanx bras are different right from the get go. First they’re constructed with a double layer of smooth and silky fabric so they are buttery soft against the skin. There are no seems on the inside of the bra to chaff and irritate. Their higher cut on the back completely eliminates the back bra band bulge completely! Seriously!

My one small complaint about the Bra-liminate Minimizer is that the underwire is uncomfortable and there’s an extra stay about 1″ from the outer curve of the underwire which runs vertically which I assume to keep the back from bunching up, but it’s right under my armpit and it digs in a bit. That said, I’m a DDD and I’ve NEVER found an underwire that doesn’t dig, pinch, or bind and the utter loveliness of the smooth back band makes up for the pain in front. Ladies with smaller breast would likely not have any of the underwire issues.

So you’re probably wondering if the Bra-liminate Minimizer bra minimizes. They claim a 1″ reduction in the breast size and I do think there’s some compression going on, but it’s not a squishy and uncomfortable feel that a lot of minimizer bras have. Cheaper bras generally just transfer all the weight of the breast to the bra straps which put pain and pressure onto the shoulders. That’s not happening here – they feel supported by the cup fabric. I would say more than minimizing it’s providing some great support without digging in around the bottom band and that makes it worthwhile.
