Photography: Orcas Island, WA Hollyhocks Flowers

I took these photos on Orcas Island, Washington last summer. A simple paper flower but it was beautiful. There are two photos here with different filters applied. If you’d like to see the fullsize original version please click on a photo.  (Oops! I’ve been informed the correct name for these are Hollyhocks!)

I love photo filters – they’re a great way to change the look of a photo with just one click so it’s perfect for whatever project you’ll be using it for. I used Google’s free Picasa program which is now integrated with Picknic (Picknic used to be a very popular stand-alone online photo editing software, but it’s now integrated into Picasa) for these effects.

Sadly in the integration we lost some of the best Picknic features – like teeth whitening. Oh how I miss that one – it was perfect for not only whitening teeth by it added brightness and contrast at the end of your paintbrush to any portion of the photo you chose.
