The Hunger Game Trilogy Audiobooks

A ruthless government forces children to fight to the death for entertainment and to punish them for transgressions made by their predecessors. In a nutshell, that’s what the wildly popular Hunger Games trilogy is about.

The author Suzanne Collins credits Theseus and the Minotaur for the spark that became the Hunger Games Trilogy.  In this Greek Myth, the king’s son is killed and so to punish the people for this deed, he directs that every four years, 9 youths must be sent to Crete to feed the Minotaur.  Theseus volunteers to go and he kills the beast. The writer see’s Katniss as a futuristic Theseus.

So how does this story translate into a book set in the future? Obviously by the millions (maybe billions) sold it does it very well. But for those of us who enjoy audiobooks it’s a real treat.  Narrator Carolyn McCormick does a phenomenal job of voicing the characters – giving each one a unique and easily identifiable voice. Her narration is flawless and she evokes a wide range of emotions throughout the stories. I especially enjoyed that she voiced all three books in the triology so it felt as if it were one whole work of art.  I highly recommend the series in audiobook form.

General information about the Hunger Games Trilogy

The entire series is available on audio CDs or as MP4 files from Audible.com.  The publisher suggests this young adult book for children ages 12+ (although please note I personally would say 16+ for this YA book – there are a lot of adult themes and a plethora of violence within).  The series was published by Scholastic Audio Books and all are unabridged editions.

Prefer the written word? All three books are currently FREE in the Kindle format (ebook) to Amazon Prime Members.
