Filtrete Water Station Kit Inexpensive DIY Filtered Water Bottles

Filtrete Water Station Kit – Bottled Water without the Waste and Expense {Gift Guide}

Filtrete Water Station Kit Review and SetupI’m like most American’s, I don’t drink enough water.  Most of my fluid intake is soda, which has no nutritional value and worse, since I drink diet, it’s filled with chemicals that may very well be causing me harm.  I’ve tried adding more water to my daily routine and I’ve tried other filters previously. I firmly believe in the value of filtering water, especially if your municipality uses chlorine or adds fluoride.

Still, I know all these things by my efforts rarely last a day or two.  Why?  Because it’s not as convenient as grabbing a can of pop from the refrigerator.  Well, now that’s changed!  Filtrete has come out with an easy to use and fast water filtration system that filters right into individual water bottles.  I no longer have the excuse that drinking water is inconvenient!

Filters directly into 4 bottles in seconds.

The whole Filtrete Water Station Kit is so quick and easy and best of all, it’s fool proof! While I filled mine on the counter (because I didn’t read the instructions first), and I didn’t have three of my bottles attached correctly, it still performed fabulously.  I love when products are smarter than me!

The filter should last 3 months or 100 gallons of water and what I love about the filter is there’s an indicator in the center of it.  Push it and it let’s the filter know it’s been activated.  As the filter is used, the button starts to turn red until it’s completely red which means it’s time to change it.  You can also sign up at the Filtrete website to get filter replacement reminders and you can also find any current Filtrete coupons and rebates there as well.  There’s one  there now that’s good for $5 off the system and it’s good until 12/31/11.

Filtrete also sells a water filter pitcher and undersink model.  I’ve tried pitchers before and they’re not for me. In fact, I have one in the back of my refrigerator that I can now clear out and make room for other stuff.  My dream is to someday purchase and install and undersink version that filters all of the water so my cooking water is filtered as well.  Until then, the Water Station is perfect for our needs.

Four bottles are plenty for our family of two, but should you need additional bottles, they’re available in 2-packs for purchase.  The bottles are a nice 16oz size and best of all, they’re BPA-free and they can be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher (but handwashing is recommended). Plus, since there aren’t individual filters inside the bottles, there’s no extra weight and no worry about losing a filter.

With a family full of kids this would be amazing, but even in our tiny family of two, it’s perfect.  For a family purchasing bottled water currently, this could save you an amazing amount of money but more importantly, you’ll know the water truly is filtered, and not municipal water sold at a premium price, and you’ll not contribute to the huge amount of waste filling up our landfills.  If you’d like to learn more about the bottled water industry, check out our video recommendation: Netflix Recommendation: “Tapped” The Story of Bottled Water and Its Disastrous Affects on People and The Land. You’ll never look at a bottle of water the same again.

The Filtrete Water Station Kit makes a great gift for any health conscious family, families working on greening their life, and active people on the go who appreciate fresh, clean, filtered water in a convenient and reusable bottles!
