I love the show House Hunters on HGTV. It’s fascinating to see what houses are like all over the US and on the International House Hunters, all over the world. But what I don’t get is the love affair most house hunters have with stainless steel appliances. Granted it’s mostly a US phenomenon, but I’ve seen a few international buyers balk at non-stainless appliances as well. Like I said, I don’t get it because I hate them.
We only have a stainless steel dishwasher (#4 since we bought the house in 1988) and I hated it so much that when the stove needed to be replaced, we replaced it with a beige one instead of a matching one. And when the 23-year old fridge gives out, it’ll be replaced by a beige one as well because I refuse to spend more time polishing my appliances. The finger prints and worse, water stains, on my dishwasher are enough to keep me from ever jumping on the stainless bandwagon.
I have recently tried a new cleaner, Affresh® Stainless Steel Cleaner, which is meant to gently clean the fingerprints and gunk left behind from daily use. And it’s supposed to help prevent residue on stainless steel surfaces. The Affresh® Stainless Steel Cleaner is easy to use – spray it on, wait a minute or two if heavily soiled, then wipe it down. No rinsing, just buff it out.
Before, during & after Affresh Stainless Steel Appliance Cleaner
The Affresh® Stainless Steel Cleaner retails for $6.99 for a spray bottle and appears to produce quite a few cleanings for that price. The smell is amazing…apricots. I did use it on my stainless steel sink and the Formica counter tops….not that it was supposed to be used on the counter tops, but I loved the smell and it cleaned them fine. Call me crazy.
Did it work? It got off the everyday grime but couldn’t touch the water damage, but then I don’t know of any cleaner that would. Until my dishwasher gets replaced, I’ll be cleaning it with Affresh®. Maybe if I’d used it from the beginning I wouldn’t hate the dishwasher so much and yes, I know when we go to sell our house there’s going to be a lot of disappointed shoppers, but I have to live with these things until then.
Affresh® Stainless Steel Cleaner comes in a spray bottle and pre-moistened wipes. It’s a water-based cleaner that can be safely used on refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, microwaves, and washers and dryers. Available at most large retailers locally and online at retailers like Amazon.com
