Groupon Played Matchmaker and Introduced Me to the Marble Slab Creamery in Maple Valley
I LOVE Groupon. If you’ve not heard of them, and seriously, who hasn’t, it’s a daily deal group coupon that allows you to purchase things at phenomenal rates. I’ve purchased Groupon’s for white water rafting trips, organic food, photos on canvas, and now, ice cream! When I saw the ad below, and realized it was just a few miles from my home, I immediately purchased one. Thinking we’d enjoy it for Valentine’s Day, the time just got away from us (plus the hubby was on duty for V-day) so I forgot about it. Luckily, Groupon‘s emailed me and reminded me to use it.

My Little Slice of Heaven
I called the Maple Valley store and talked to the nicest gal. She’s told me her name three times and I still can’t remember. I told her I was ordering from a Groupon certificate and rather than treat me like a cheapskate, she couldn’t have been kinder. We talked about my special dietary needs (vegetarian, no artificial colors or flavors, and natural as possible) and she helped me pick out the perfect ice cream and cake combination.
Since this was a special order, they needed a day to prepare it, so I set up a Friday pickup. Unfortunately, with my husband’s ancient truck out of commission, we’re a one car family right now, and I found out he was on duty that day. So I called the Maple Valley Marble Slab Creamery and they thanked me kindly for calling – the strawberries don’t keep so they’d have had to have been thrown out if we didn’t pick them up.
Move forward to Saturday. We enjoyed the day, it snowed on and off, and at 8pm I remembered the ice cream and strawberries waiting for us just a few miles away. Darn it! I felt especially guilty because now the strawberries wouldn’t be any good. The hubby worked Sunday so on Monday I called and asked if we could come pick up the heart cakes. The very kind person who answered the phone even offered to make new strawberries, which I declined, since it’d been our mistake not to pick them up.
My husband arrived at the store with the Groupon in hand. He said the store was spotlessly clean (he inspects restaurants as a Fire Fighter and trust me, if he thinks it’s clean it’s clean!) and the staff incredibly helpful. They offered once again to remake the strawberries, but he declined. The whole transaction was quick and they staff courteous. It turns out they’ve been their five years, but we’d never noticed them. I only wished I’m known BEFORE about the store before I started watching what I eat!

Anyway, I did eat a quarter of the sweet cream ice cream cake with fresh strawberries mixed in on the thinnest slice of chocolate cake. I was expecting more cake, but was thrilled with the amount of cake and ice cream. The cake is so flavorful it really stands up to the ice cream. The icing is PHENOMENAL. No seriously, it’s amazing. This is premium iced cream and full of flavor. Is it as good as Cold Stone Creamery? I don’t know, I’ve never tried them, but it’s definitely NOT a Dairy Queen ice cream cake (have you ever looked at the ingredients in a DQ ice cream cake? It’s not easy to find the list of ingredients, but here it is – there’s not much natural in there! It’s scary!). I haven’t seen the other cake, it went straight into the freezer. It’s a praline pecan with pralines, but I expect it’s just as cute and tasty as this one. Oh, and it went in with the hand-dipped ice cream the hubby added to the order. Now he’s an ice cream connoisseur!

My Sweet Cream and Strawberries heart-shaped cake from the Maple Valley Marble Slab Creamery
It’s going to take me a few days to enjoy these and thankfully there’s information on their website for the cake I ordered. I happen to weigh the whole cake and it was 14oz. I ate 1/4 of it or about 99 grams. I’m going to over estimate because I’m not certain all of the ingredients match up. So the Weight Watchers PointsPlus points for my little slice of heaven is 9! So totally worth it! Oh, and I don’t usually like ice cream! I probably have it 3-5 times a year! It’s that good.
One of these days when the hubby is back in his truck and I don’t have to plan for the van, I’m going back just for chocolate dipped strawberries. Now I know those will fit my weight loss plan better, and if they’re half as delicious as these cakes, I’ll be in heaven!

I don’t think we have one of those near me, and I desperately want to try those cakes. Good Lord!
That looks so good – I’m going to have to find out if there is a Marble Slab Creamery anywhere around here.
