I’ve been looking into ways to organize and update my life. Right now the two rooms that cause me daily chaos, but ones that could be fixed for just a little bit of money, are the office/storeroom and the living-room. What I realized is that even though in the living room we have a flat screen TV, because of the way it’s mounted on the wall (way too high), it actually hangs out into the room as far as an old-fashioned tube TV. I’m going to try to talk the hubs into removing the wall mount (which took him forever to get up) and switch to a sleek, corner TV stand, that will hold the TV, the cable box, DVD player, et al., and still leave us some room to mount some art above it. With the flat screen mounted on a swivel arm, it feels like a hospital room.
Having a cabinet with doors, instead of the open shelf we have now under the hanging TV, would also take care of some of the visual clutter. So would calling the boys and telling them to come pick up their DVDs they failed to take with them when they moved out.
I’m also going to talk him into a shopping trip to Ikea on Thursday to check out the kitchen island I’ve been coveting for some time. I think it’s perfect, but we’ll see once it’s measured. It’s going to be hard to convince him that replacing the kitchen table with a kitchen island and bar stools is a good thing, but I need the extra counter space! Our cabinets are not the same white-white as this demo kitchen, so the first thing I’ll have to do is paint it. I may paint it yellow, we’ll see. Of course, I have to BUY it before I start redoing it! Funny thing is, I have two perfect bar stools with painted wood and rattan seats. I saw them on Craigslist about 4 years ago and bought them – that’s how long I’ve been thinking about doing this!
Unfortunately, the 30+ year old furnace gave out this week so that’s going to put a damper on my redecorating. I think I’ll be able to swing one of these. Darn heater!
Spring cleaning/redecorating will go into full gear next week when we move into our son’s old bedroom and we rip out the carpet, remove the wallpaper, and scrap the popcorn ceiling in our master bedroom. Wait until you see how ugly our 1970′s blue bathroom is!
Happy spring rejuvenation!
