Bug and Animal-Free Food Products You May Already Have at Home
Ok, so I’ve been giving you lots of information about the disgusting things found in food. Since I’m already a vegetarian, I thought I knew a lot about what’s in my food. I was wrong. As I find out more, I’m starting to wonder what’s left to eat!
Today I accidentally ran across an entire list of every day food that’s vegan! Yep, no bug coloring or shellac. I even have lots of these in my pantry, but I’m thrilled to find so many more things I can add.
The list is split up in categories – Breakfast (dry – like cereals), Beverages, Snacks, Condiments, Baked Goods, Refrigerated and Frozen, Baking, and Staples. Some of the items that surprised me were Kool-aid, I assumed the red would have carmine. Airheads Taffy and Swedish Fish are both on the list and I’ve been avoiding them for years! I assumed they had gelatin – I’m so glad to find out they don’t! I miss Swedish Fish & Airheads!

Another item I was surprised about was Dole Madarin Orange Fruit Gels. Gelatin was one of the first items I found out the truth about so I haven’t had Jello in about 15 years. Evidently these don’t have gelatin. I’m guessing they use pectin. I’m thrilled there’s something similar to Jello and I will be checking it out.
What’s there that’s probably in your pantry? Nabisco Oreo Cookies, Nabisco Original Graham Crackers, Nabisco Teddy Grahams (Chocolate and Cinnamon), Nabisco Triscuit Crackers Baked Whole Grain Wheat Fire Roasted Tomato & Rosemary & Olive Oil (I bought these the other day and had to stop myself from eating the entire box cream cheese- delish!). I love that Nabisco has so many vegan options (lots more are available on the site), but they’re not the only large manufacturer that does. Ritz regular and whole wheat crackers are on the list as are Wheat Thins (Original, Multi-Grain, and Reduced Fat).
If you’re looking to remove some of the unnecessary additives from your food, check out the list. There are some great choices there!
